Facilities Management

Facilities Management (FM)  is a relatively new professional discipline and as such has varied definitions. The definition the Estates Team have chosen that best accurately reflects the work we do is  “a professional management discipline focused upon the efficient and effective delivery of support services for the organizations that it serves. It serves to ensure the integration of people, systems, place, process, and technology”.

The over arching aim/policy of the Estates Department is to maintain and repair all infrastructure and facilities to current legislation within the resources available.

We have chosen to divide facilities management into 4 categories namely

  • Soft Services: These are the things that you can see such as landscaping, cleaning ,security, maintenance items.
  • Hard Services: These are the things you cannot see and are primarily Building Services electricity distribution, hot and cold water systems heating and Ventilation.
  • Fire Protection Systems: Dkit Estates have deliberately given a category of its own to these systems as fire is one of the greatest threats to the business of the organisation.
  • Fabric & Infrastructure: The external fabric of our buildings is constantly besieged by the elements . Civil  infrastructure must also be maintained.
